The Jubilee Party on Monday, February 17 issued a statement on the health condition of Secretary-General Raphael Tuju who is hospitalized at Karen Hospital.
Jubilee noted that doctors had assured them that Tuju had full control of his limbs just as he did when he walked into the Accident and Emergency Section at AIC Kijabe Hospital after the crash before being airlifted to Nairobi.
The party further confirmed that doctors taking care of him had began to wean him off sedation, noting that his injuries were healing well.
Tuju was hospitalized after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a matatu at Magina on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway on Wednesday, February 12.
The statement further disclosed that, to reduce the risk of aggravating Tuju's injuries, he had been immobilised since Friday, February 14.
Through the party, Tuju's family requested that those wishing to visit Tuju in hospital allow him more time to recover before making the trip.
"The family through the party wishes to thank all those who have been praying, sending messages of goodwill or encouraging them in one way or another.
"They further wish to request that the patient be allowed more time to recover before he can be visited," the statement read in part.
It was further noted that Jubilee Party activities would continue in spite of Tuju's hospitalization, with executive director James Waweru tasked with steering the party.
"All party activities at the secretariat continue to run uninterrupted through the able leadership of the executive director assisted by the directors," party communications director Albert Memusi wrote.
Tuju was on his way to the burial of former President Daniel Arap Moi when the accident took place.
Also injured in the crash were his bodyguard, Charles Oyaro and driver Austin Oinde.
