Thugs in Kenya seem to be on steroids after one of them took matters into his own hands and made away with loot that had been received by a traffic police officer allegedly as bribes.
Quoting a witness who saw the thief vanish into a bush, Nairobi News reported that the incident took place at around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, at Kathageri shopping centre along Nairobi-Meru highway.
The witness noted that the man appeared from the bush, grabbed the stash before vanishing.
The man reportedly stole the money from two officers, a man and woman, who were manning traffic flow along the stretch.
He further noted that the male officer tried to go after the loot in vain, the thief ran faster.
“There are these steep roads that connect to the road, and the spot where the officers were based is shaped like a wedge. That is the road the young man used to escape.
"On realising he could not catch the young man, the officer shouted at him many times. But there is little he could do as the man vanished into the bushes,” stated the witness.
He further added that the two officers were busy inspecting four vehicles that had been stopped for checks when the incident occurred.
“It was like a five-second bank job,” he added.
The officer's attempt to go after the thief was thwarted by the fact that they were on a side of the road as opposed to where the stash had been stored. The man had to check for traffic before crossing.
