More than 50 Senators are set to leave their offices at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) after receiving a notice to vacate the premises for a year.
According to the notice read in the House by Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye, the Senators would have to work from elsewhere until January 2017, as the government prepares to host two global conferences at KICC.
In September last year, the lawmakers were directed to temporarily vacate their offices located at the 1st to the 13th floor of the bulding following the World Trade Organization (WTO) summit that the country hosted in December.

The Legislators, who have been away from their offices since then, have expressed their disappointment, stating that they needed to be back in their offices since they had been out for a long time.
“We have been tactically thrown out of our offices. We were cheated to release the offices for a few months but now we are being told we will be given money. Who said we want money? We want offices to work from because we are now working from some jua kali places,” Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale was quoted by the Nation.
Kenya is expected to host the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in August 2016.
