Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Saturday, February 22, expressed his disappointment at Murang'a Women Representative Sabina Chege and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who had attended a BBI rally at the William ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok County.
Taking to social media, Kuria alleged that the two were quick to heckle Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala who spoke against gender proposals made in the BBI but not Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina, whose remarks he considered divisive.
"Dear Anne Waiguru and Sabina Chege. When Ledama ole Kina was vomiting vitriol against other tribes in Narok, how exactly did you feel? he questioned.
"Strange you heckled Raphael Wanjala and cheered on Ledama. Even Ngunjiri Wambugu kept off. That's how low the two of you have sunk. People of Kirinyaga and Muranga, you chose people who are in business but I won't mention which business," Kuria added.
Wanjala had stated that gender issues should not be legislated in a democratic society.
"You cannot force a man who wants to be a governor, to nominate a woman as a deputy. This is a democratic nation and everyone will compete on his own. You are not entering into a marriage," Wanjala stated as he was shouted down by the women.
On his part, Ledama stated that the Maa community was not against anyone settling in Maasai land but issued warning that they had to adhere to the rules.
"We are not against any outsiders coming to settle in the Maasai land but we won't allow anyone to come and dictate on who will lead us," he stated.
Ledama came under fire from a section of Kenyans after he appeared on Citizen TV's JKLive show on Wednesday, February 19 and weighed in with his views on land in the region.
"I think one of the biggest priorities for the Maasai is land-use policies. We are people who have been marginalised for a very long time. We are very hospitable and welcoming, so people come into our area, take our land and subdivide it.
"This is our land. Any visitor is welcome there to do business. But if today I go to Kiambu, I will be welcome to do business, but I cannot run for office there. If one buys agricultural land, it remains agricultural land. He cannot subdivide and bring his tribesmen or his friends there because of the scarcity of resources," he stated.
