Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is a business magnate living a luxurious life. From his love of high-end cars, sleek clothes to passion for flights.
In December 2017, Joho brought Dedan Kimathi Avenue, Mombasa to a standstill, when he arrived at a wedding ceremony aboard a chopper.
In January 2018, former KTN News presenter Jamal Gaddafi, after an interview with the county boss, revealed that Joho bought a brand new Eurocopter with the registration number 5Y-HLI to ease his movement across Mombasa County.
The helicopter is a single-engine light utility helicopter developed by the French manufacturer, Eurocopter.
The Eurocopter AS350B2 is worth approximately $2.4 million (Ksh245 million) according to AV Buyer, a corporate aviation website.
It has a wide unobstructed cabin, at 95 cubic feet, which offers enough space to accommodate up to six passengers comfortably.
The multipurpose helicopter can be configured for various purposes from VIP transportation, law enforcement, news coverage, fire fighting, medical evacuation and search and rescue operations.
The AS350 B2 is also equipped with an innovative, advanced, corrosion-free StarFlex rotor and main & tail rotors blades which are made entirely of composite materials.
In the cockpit, it entails a control panel with console technology and circuit breakers.
The pilot can also view engine parameters on a dual LCD screen due to the presence of a vehicle and engine multifunction display (VEMD) and integrated instrumentation.
The chopper flies at a maximum speed of 287 kilometres per hour and reaches an altitude maximum of 20,000 feet.
