Deputy President William Ruto surprised a woman and her family with a brand new car when he toured Kandara Constituency on Friday, March 6, where he officially opened Kandara Technical Training College.
Ruto, after speaking to the crowd called a young girl to the stage and disclosed details of a private conversation the two had.
The girl had requested the DP to pay her school fees. However, he opted to support her mother, who would, in turn, provide for her.
"This girl Muthoni requested me to support her education. She also told me that her mother was a taxi driver.
Instead of paying her fees, I decided to support the venture to ensure that the next time she drives a taxi, she drives her own. So I will buy her a brand new car which will be delivered next week," Ruto promised as the crowd applauded.
The woman joined her daughter on the dais, shook Ruto's hand and thanked him in person as Kandara MP Alice Wahome watched.
Ruto also gave Ksh1 million to the legislator, directing her to ensure that the money would be distributed among the women in the region to support their business ventures.
In his speech earlier on, Ruto had asked leaders to unite and preach unity, which would see the nation develop.
"Kenya cannot be changed on words only. The problem in Kenya is not leadership or power or positions, but Kenyans themselves who are in need of education, water, roads, electricity and money in their pockets.
"We shall cooperate and ask MPs, MCAs and Kenyans to agree on how we shall unite, we do not want politics based on tribalism and violence. BBI should not also be used to divide but unite Kenyans," he told the crowd.
