A high-ranking officer of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was caught red-handed with rolls of bhang in his vehicle.

A report published by K24 TV, indicates that Army Major Peter Muriithi was arrested on the morning of Sunday, March 22, at around 5:40 a.m.

The KDF boss, based in Bothay, was in the company of a junior, Corporal Martin Munene, who was driving him in a Toyota Proda, to an unspecified location.

The two were nabbed after stopping at a roadblock by officers from the multi-agency team in Moyale, Marsabit County.

The Prado was fully stuffed with several rolls of bhang of unknown street value when the duo was arrested.

The two were taken to unspecified police custody waiting for further directions from the police and military.

Before transferring to Bothay, Muriithi served as the commander of the Odda Military Camp within Moyale Sub-county.

Police Crime

The Nation Police Service (NPS) has for years grappled with cases of officers being involved in criminal activities forcing it in 2019 to issue a statement warning Kenyans to be on the lookout.

In the five weeks leading to October 2019, some 48 officers were arrested and charged in connection with criminal activities.

In January 2020, some prison officers were nabbed by their colleagues after they were caught transporting what was believed to be victims of human trafficking in a government vehicle.

Among those rescued were six juveniles and two adults who did not possess any identification documents.
