The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has begun a probe into the shooting of Wycliffe Vincent Oduor.

This comes after renowned criminal Lawyer Cliff Ombeta alleged that Oduor was murdered in cold blood and shared a video in which three men appeared to be confronting a man before a gunshot is heard.

"I told you vincent was executed. Now, deny this. Where is the shootout? This was murder. I have the facts," Ombeta captioned the video.

In various posts by the lawyer on Twitter on Thursday, March 26, he alleged that the Kayole OCPD, OCS and top special crime prevention unit officers killed the suspect so as to take the money that they had already taken from him.

Reached for comment on Wednesday, March 25 by kenyans.co.ke, Ombeta maintained that reports of Oduor being a robber around Kayole Junction and engaging police in a shoot-out were false and created by the DCI to justify his killing.

He further vowed to pursue the matter to its full conclusion.

"This one, I am not letting go. This is my client, they killed him. There was no shoot-out, no 3-man gang, nothing. He was simply lured and killed.

"I will pursue this matter to the end. I'm looking into private prosecution," he stated.

Ombeta explained that he was considering private prosecution as he considered the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) as currently constituted 'a toothless dog'

Oduor, who is believed to be the mastermind of the Ksh72 million heist that took place in Nairobi West in 2019, was allegedly gunned down by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He is reported to have been involved in a dramatic shootout at Kayole junction, something that Ombeta strongly maintains is false.

The police indicated that Oduor was part of a three-man gang of robbery with violence suspects.

"The Mastermind in Ksh72 million Nairobi West ATM Heist last year; Wycliff Vincent Oduor was today gunned down in a fierce shootout between a three-man gang of robbery with violence suspects and detectives responding to a distress call from the public at Kayole Junction in Nairobi.

"Armed with pistols and riding on a motorbike, the three started robbing members of the public at the said location, a scene which attracted the attention of a team of Kayole detectives on patrol," read a police statement in part.
