Former NTV co-anchors Victoria Rubadiri and Larry Madowo reunited on Citizen TV on the night of Saturday, March 28.

Rubadiri invited Madowo, her former co-host on NTV's Weekend Edition as a guest to discuss the Coronavirus pandemic that has claimed more than 20,000 lives worldwide.

The Knight-Bagehot fellow in Business and Economics at the Columbia University narrated how he was forced to leave New York after the virus struck the city.

He further condemned police brutality meted on Kenyans after the nationwide night-to-dawn curfew took effect on Friday, March 27.

"New York City may be the most vibrant city in the world and I watched the city empty. I watched stalls being closed and basically, there was nobody and at the same time, the rate of infections was going up constantly.

"Now, the rate of infections in New York state is five times higher than anywhere else in the United States. As of today, just under 30,000 people have tested positive for the virus in New York City alone with 52,000 being infected in the whole state," stated Madowo.

"I did not think it made sense to remain in that city which is really densely populated and people are in each other's space all the time, it made sense for me to step away for a little while," he added.

During the show, the anchor also revealed that after completing his high school studies, he worked in his aunt's cafe at Gikomba Market.

"I know people were telling me that I haven't had any work in Nairobi for long. My first job coming out of high school I used to work at my aunt's place that sold tea in Gikomba. I know people who have to work hard and be out there in Gikomba every day, otherwise, they wouldn't have something to eat.

"I was horrified watching the people getting brutalised by the police crossing the ferry. The fact that people who are supposed to protect us are out there beating us up is something that I think the government should take more seriously," he added.

Madowo quit the Nation Media Group where he was an anchor and technology editor for NTV in March 2018. He later joined BBC Africa before taking a leave to study.

In May 2018, Rubadiri followed suit and joined Citizen TV where she hosts Sunday Live, alongside Jeff Koinange.
