The mother of a 13-year-old boy, Yasin Moyo, who was shot dead in Kiamaiko Estate, Nairobi on Monday evening, March 30, recalled the fateful night she lost her son.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday, March 31, Hadija Moyo stated that she had sent her son to get her phone when the fatal incident took place.

"Minutes later, my son called and told us that there were officers who were beating up people.

"When we went, I heard a gunshot and I thought they had fired in the air and so I told my kids to lie down. It is then that I noticed my son was on the floor, he told me he had been shot and on looking at him, he was bleeding," Hadija narrated.

Yassin's father, Hussein Moyo, added that they rushed the 13-year-old to Mama Lucy Hospital but died while undergoing surgery.

"The doctor called me into a room and told me that the bullet went through my son's stomach and rested on his leg. He said that my son had internal bleeding and he did not make it.

"He took me where they had placed his body and I saw him," Hussein narrated as tears welled up his eyes.

The family has now called upon relevant authorities to help them get justice.

"If indeed there is justice in this country, I want to see it served. I'd have preferred if my son died from Coronavirus but not in the way that he did," Hadija stated.

"The officers really wronged us because my children were on the third floor and they were not causing any harm to anyone," Hussein's father lamented.

On Tuesday, March 31, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji directed Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to launch a probe into the incident.

DPP Haji ordered that a forensic analysis be conducted on the weapons held by the officers on duty at the time of the shooting.
