Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary-general Francis Atwoli paid a heartfelt tribute to his father-in-law during his burial ceremony held on Saturday, April 4.

The flamboyant trade unionist disclosed that he had a close relationship with the deceased, the father to his wife and KTN News anchor Mary Kilobi.

Atwoli described his father-in-law as a man who was pure of heart and never held grudges with anybody.

"We loved the old man and he loved us too and I still had several pending projects I was supposed to accomplish with him to help the homestead.

"I know where Samson has gone to. I spent a lot of time with him, even at Mary's graduation, he has a pure heart and a heart is the temple of God," he stated.

Kilobi announced the death of her father in an emotional Facebook post on Sunday, March 29, describing him as her support system.

During the ceremony, Kilobi noted that her father always referred to her as the Mary Kilobi of KTN and was so proud of her.

"Father used to call me, My daughter, Mary Kilobi. Every time he met somebody, he would ask them, 'do you know Mary Kilobi of KTN?' He expected that everybody knew me.

"My dad told everybody whether you cared to listen or not. He was so proud of me," she stated.

Atwoli also addressed the Covid-19 outbreak during the funeral explaining that it was a curse from God meant to equalise the rich and the poor in the world.

The outspoken Cotu secretary-general stated that since the disease had affected almost all countries in the world, the rich could no longer seek better healthcare abroad.

"This Coronavirus is a punishment from God. This issue, there is nowhere any leader or a civilian can run to. The leaders could now be asking for top-notch hospitals in India in order to seek better healthcare.

"All the places are now affected. God sought to equalise the rich, the poor and thieves of public funds. Right now, the leaders can no longer spend their loot lavishly," he explained.

The death of Kilobi's father came roughly six months after her brother was gunned down by thugs on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

"I can’t believe this hot brother of mine Emmanuel Weyusia has gone to be with the Lord. Marsh we’ve lost you to some cruel people who shot you," Kilobi mourned through a Facebook post at the time.
