A video of a Kenyan pilot who passed away after contracting the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19), recorded days before his demise, has surfaced online.

Captain Kimuyu Kabati, who was a captain on the 787 Fleet in the national carrier's operations department, passed away on April 1, 2020, and his demise was made public by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe.

On the evening of Sunday, March 5, a video of a jovial Kabati surfaced online and touched many Kenyans hearts.

In the video posted online by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and reportedly captured before the crew left for New York, the pilot joined his crew members in dancing to a throwback Swahili classic song.

Some of the crew members were donning red attires, four gentlemen were wearing black suits and a choir, which we establish be managed by a Kenyan telco, wore green uniforms.

One of the crew members is seen in the video filming her colleagues as they displayed their absolute happiness in a fun sing-along.

The pilot who is in high spirits is dressed in a black suit.

The Captain is said to have flown the last Kenyan flight from the United States following the outbreak of Covid-19 that necessitated the halting of all international passenger flights to Kenya.

Kenya Airways had given complimentary one-way tickets to Kenyan citizens from John F. Kennedy Airport to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

A statement issued by the airline and signed by Evelyne Munyoki, the chief human resources officer, announced the pilot's death. He had reportedly been suffering from diabetes.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Management and the staff at Kenya Airways, we join the family of the late Captain Kibati in mourning their beloved one and pray that the Almighty God will strengthen them during this time of sorrow," read an excerpt of the statement.
