Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over allegations of the formation of a coalition government after the Covid-19 pandemic passes.

While addressing the media on Monday, April 13, the Jubilee legislator asserted that the head of state was within his rights to do whatever he wanted if it means the government was recognised by the cabinet.

"If the government is recognised by Cabinet Secretaries, let him appoint Raila Odinga, James Orengo, Francis Atwoli, Junet Mohammed and all those people, there is no problem. We don't have that power. The power is with Uhuru Kenyatta," Kuria stated.

"So if Uhuru Kenyatta wants to appoint them what can we do, except to believe in God? We wait for our turn in 2022, we form a government and they respect us too," he added.

The legislator proclaimed that the ruling Jubilee party was there to stay and that leaders in his faction were not going anywhere. He further stated that if President Kenyatta wanted to form a government with Raila, it should not be at the expense of their respect.

"Do we have to be in government, can't we be in opposition but with dignity? Let him go and form a government with Raila, which they want to form, but let respect prevail. It's better we die on our feet than to live on our knees," Kuria pronounced.

Addressing the leadership wrangles that have since rocked the party, the lawmaker argued that they had for a long time kept their silence as the party was steered in the wrong direction.

This is after a letter dated April 6, 2020, was presented to the Registrar of political parties, proposing changes to the Jubilee party's National Management Committee. Deputy President William Ruto, along with several leaders from the party have since written to the registrar, disputing the changes.

"I think these guys have had the honeymoon for too long. I think the time has come for us to face each other and we are ready. This party is not somebody's bedroom and is not anybody's kitchen or property. This is a party for everyone who voted for us," Kuria stated.

"If 150 people signed that petition, whoa are the owners of the party? We are the owners of the party. Murathe can take a walk," he pronounced.

Kuria downplayed question as to whether David Murathe was still the party's vice-chairperson, or he had resigned, stating that the most important thing was that they were not consulted on any changes in leadership the party had planned.

"Who has elected Murathe? Who has elected Tuju? Who does Murathe speak for? At least I have got 75,000 people who voted for me. Even if I speak for no one, at the very least I speak for those people," Kuria stated.

"But I think we have been abused by these people. They slap us, we give them the other cheek. Now it is time to face them man to man. They will walk out. We are the majority. Nobody has preferential shares, I have the same shares as Uhuru Kenyatta," he added.

The legislator further stated that he was not in Jubilee by accident, rather because that is the party they presented to the people of Kenya.
