A Member of County Assembly is in hiding after unknown assailants raided his home on Monday night, April 13, torching his cattle shed, leaving behind two jerricans of petrol after occupants raised the alarm.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, April 14,  Mutira MCA David Kinyua confirmed that arsons raided his home, heaping blame on Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. The MCA tabled the impeachment motion against Waiguru on March 31, rallying his colleagues to oust the governor.

"We were able to put off the fire. I forwarded the matter to the DCI who came to my house at 2 a.m for forensic analysis. I am seeking protection for the police. My residents have been informed of my whereabouts and have been asked to maintain calm. I want to candidly state that this plot was hatched out of my stance against the governor. I will not be intimated and I will pursue the agenda," Kinyua stated.

Kinyua has been a hardliner against Waiguru and had accused the governor of gross misconduct, violation of the constitution and abuse of office.

A report by Citizen TV on Tuesday, April 14 added that two other MCAs recorded their statements at Kirinyaga Police Station, alleging that their lives are in danger.

“I want to go into hibernation because I do not know what these people are planning, I have told you If you no longer see me around, you know how things are,” Ngariama MCA Erastus Ireri stated.

His name was mentioned in a flyer circulated in the county, warning him of severe consequences if he did not shy away from criticising Waiguru.

"Kutoka leo tarehe 12/4/2020 tunakuonya uachane na Governor Kirinyaga County la si hivyo utaona cha mtema kuni. Fanya kazi yako uachana na Governor Waiguru. Ujue tunakutafuta. (From today, April 12, desist from criticising Governor Waiguru or less you will face our wrath. Do your work and keep informed that we are tracking you)," the flyer reads.

James Kamau Murango while speaking outside Kirinyaga Police Station on Monday, April 13, rallied the county's security team to enhance security for MCAs arguing that the intimidations sprouted from their stance against Waiguru.

On Tuesday, April 14, tycoon Peter Ngirici, husband to Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Purity Ngirici, tore into Waiguru and warned her of a looming impeachment.

"The time to impeach Governor Waguru has come. Kama sio sasa ni sasa hive . Waiguru should put herself into account before the county assembly against the accusations. We are opposed to intimidation of MCAs," Peter stated while addressing Kirinyaga residents.

On Sunday, April 12, Waiguru's Covid-19 awareness campaign was disrupted by rowdy youth. It was alleged that the youth had been incited by MCA Mathew Ireri in collaboration with his counterpart Rose Njeru.

Seven of the Kirinyaga County MCAs who earlier sought to impeach governor Anne Waiguru on Friday, April 10, backed down on their plot and asked for forgiveness

While accompanying the governor to Kagio Market for a Covid-19 sensitisation campaign, the MCAs apologised to the county chief and stated that they had been misled.

Waiguru distanced herself from the incident and condemned it.

"I have always advocated for peace in Kirinyaga County. We have been concerned about the political temperatures rising in this county, with a number of individuals inciting the youth. We reported the issues to the police and three individuals were arrested. We even saw some MCAs bailing them out, indicating that they were the ones who incited them. I urge the DCI to take this issue seriously as it may get out of hand," Waiguru stated in a press conference on Tuesday, April 14.
