One of President Uhuru Kenyatta's bodyguards found himself behind bars after allegedly causing a commotion at one of the roadblocks erected to bar movement.

According to a report by The Standard, the officer attached to Uhuru's escort team was detained on Sunday, April 12.

The man, who is also a superintendent, was allegedly disarmed and detained for reportedly being rude to the officers who were manning the roadblock.

The officer was said to be heading home after his shift. He tried to pass the roadblock arguing that he was expected at work early the next morning.

He allegedly argued with the head of the multi-agency team which is overseeing operations in the curbing of the Covid-19 virus spread.

He was, however, set free unconditionally early the next morning.

This commotion comes just after Major-General Ayub Matiri, the Commanding Officer of the National Command Centre for Covid-19, disclosed that security officers were the highest violators of the curfew since it kicked off on Friday, March 28.

In the two weeks that the dusk to dawn curfew has been in place, over 100 officers have been arrested after being caught violating the curfew.

“Some of the arrested officers are handed over to the commanders for disciplinary action. In most of the cases, the officers are found with members of the public, locked up in bars,” an officer told People Daily.

On the night of Saturday, April 11, two high-ranking officers, a Chief Inspector attached to Vigilance House and another police constable attached to Disaster Management Unit, together with a civilian were arrested after attacking someone for advising them to observe Uhuru's orders.

Other top-ranking officials who found themselves on the wrong side of the law include Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, a Deputy County Commissioner, a magistrate, a senior military commander and singer Ringtone Apoko.
