A businessman has gone missing three weeks after reportedly delivering Ksh 300,000 to a Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officer in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
A report by The Standard on Saturday, April 18, detailed that investigators (Kayole and Nairobi DCI) assigned to the case found out that Michael Wainaina Ngururu's last call before he disappeared, was from an officer at Ruiru Police Station.
The businessman, 43, went missing on Friday night, March 17, forcing his wife, Nancy Njeri, to file a missing report at Mihango Police Post.
John Kamau, the family's spokesperson, disclosed that before his disappearance, Wainaina had visited Ruiru Police Station where he met the DCI officer.
Reports allege that the businessman went to deliver Ksh 300,000 to the officer who had promised to aid a robbery with violence suspect be freed from prison. Wainaina was reportedly acting as a conduit for the prisoner's family based in Nakuru.
On March 25, Wainaina delivered Ksh 100,000 and disappeared after delivering the balance following demands that Ksh 100,000 was insufficient.
"We now want the police to investigate this DCI officer over the disappearance of Wainaina. We believe he has crucial evidence," Kamau stated.
The businessman's wife, Njeri, was informed that her husband's car was found dumped along Eastern Bypass and also added that two of his mobile phones were switched off on the very day he disappeared.
The vehicle was towed to the Ruiru Police Station as investigators launched a mission to dig out the whereabouts of the missing business magnate.
Kayole DCI investigating the mater shared the businessman's call data with the family but were yet to record a statement from the DCI officer in question.
