Tenants at an apartment block identified as Jalde, in Kiambu's Ruaka Town are facing the possibility of being locked down in their houses after 4 cases of Covid-19 were reportedly recorded in one of the units located therein.

Kiambaa Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, April 22, that four Bangladeshi nationals had tested positive for Coronavirus and had been isolated.

"Those who were infected and their close contacts have been isolated because they were living in one unit.

"But for the whole apartment, we are making arrangements to see where all the occupants will be tested. We are still calling a number of relevant people to ensure that the activity takes place," Maina stated.

He further informed that he was in consultation with the relevant bodies to ensure that the testing of all the tenants in the building was undertaken.

"We have not locked down the apartment, but we have locked down the unit where the Bangladeshi nationals were staying along with their contacts.

"We have, however, not locked down all the other apartments but going forward, the next move will be informed by the outcome of the tests.

"It is very likely that tonight I will be in that building to announce the next move that we will take, but as for now, let us keep consulting," Maina told this reporter.

Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, however, when contacted by Kenyans.co.ke read a different script from Maina's and indicated that he was yet to hear of any information concerning the new cases.

"In any case, if four people from one apartment test positive for the pandemic, the government has got a machinery to look into that. Let me get to the bottom of the matter," he stated.

The recording of those cases has sent ripples across a section of the public, some expressed distrust at the way in which the cases were being handled all over the country

"The motive of the government is to make money out this. Those positive will have to pay Ksh3,150 per day charges for 14 days and those in close contacts will have to Ksh2,000 per day for forced isolation for 14 days or more, those are things no one is telling you about," a social media user lamented.

"The Ministry of Health should not move these people. Instead, it should turn the apartments into a quarantine centre," another opined.

"Convenient to the tenants and highly profitable for the govt because these Kenyans will have to pay Ksh2,000 per day for being under quarantine in their own houses," Yosefu J.K added
