Joseph Mathenge has resorted to donning sack clothes as he protests the forceful quarantine of his wife. The middle-aged man had also been on a hunger strike, as he agitates for the release of his wife.
Mathenge's wife, Jane Njeri is currently under quarantine at the Nyandarua High School, after she had travelled back from Migori, county.
Njeri is reportedly a trader at a market in Ol Kalou and had travelled to the south Nyanza county to buy fresh produce for her business.
Mathenge informed that is wife was summoned to Ol Kalou police station upon return and was later forcefully placed under quarantine.
The father of two pointed fingers at his wife's colleagues at the market, stating that Njeri had been warned by one of the traders at the market prior to her arrest.
“In this market of Ol Kalou, there are women cartels. Last week, my wife travelled to Migori to buy some edibles. When I passed by the market the other day, one of the women told me they were aware that my wife would be quarantined once she comes back…and it came to be,” Mathenge narrated.
“She came back yesterday and was summoned to the Ol Kalou Police Station and I accompanied her. She was locked in and I was told that they were waiting for a team to come and test her," he added.
Mathenge asked that county health officers establish his wife's status and release her, alleging that she was suffering while under quarantine.
His attempts at reaching the Nyandarua county commander have been in vain but he has vowed to continue with the protests until his wife is released.
