Controversial barrister Miguna Miguna could barely hide his excitement after President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Lt. General Robert Kariuki Kibochi as the new Chief of the Defence Forces.

Taking to his social media accounts on May 1, 2020, the exiled lawyer was quick to point out that he had foreseen such a circumstance early on and informed Kenyans about it.

"We know that Uhuru Kenyatta will appoint either Gen. Robert Kariuki Kibochi or Lt. Gen. Leonard Kariuki as the Chief of the Defence Forces after Mwathethe's exit.

"He postponed the appointment after Kenyans reacted furiously following the 13 out of 18 ambassadors," Miguna wrote on May 7, 2019, in relation to President Kenyatta's appointment of several ambassadors on May 3, 2019.

The appointments caused an uproar among Kenyans, many who felt like the decision by the president was biased towards one tribe and not representative of the Kenyan demography.

Miguna insisted that President Kenyatta's appointment in various sectors, including in the appointment of government officials like PSs and CSs had always been lopsided.

He insisted that Kenyans should rally together and condemn such decisions by the national leader and demand for accountability as a host of other Kenyans from different demographies are also well qualified for such jobs.

"Only grasshoppers believe that since 1963, there is no Luo or Luhya or Kisii or Turkana or Massai or Pokot or Pokomo or Teso or Kuria who has qualified and rose through the ranks to be appointed Chief of Defence Forces.

"We know why the decorated General [Daniel] Opande wasn't appointed," Miguna wrote in reference to the retired Lieutenant General credited with lobbying for peace in several countries in Africa.

"Thankfully, more than 99% of the military is composed of non-commissioned and commissioned officers below the rank of Brigadier. The Great Thomas Sankara was only a Captain in the Army. Jerry Rawlings was just a Flight Lieutenant in the Airforce. Viva!" he wrote

President Kenyatta appointed Kibochi to replace Mwathethe who has served in the position since April 17, 2015.

Alongside Kibochi, he also appointed Lt. Gen Levi Mghalu to the role of Vice Chief of Defence Forces and Major General Jimson Mutai as the new Commander of the Kenya Navy.
