Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Rise to 781

Kenya's confirmed Covid-19 cases have risen to 781 after 23 more people tested positive for the virus out of the 2,100 samples tested in the past 24 hours. 

Health CAS Rashid Aman announced this during the daily Covid-19 briefing on Friday, May 15, at Afya House announced 3 more people succumbed to the virus, taking the total fatalities to 45.

"Of course each loss of life is a tragedy, and we pray that the Almighty God comfort the ones that have departed and rest their souls in peace," CAS Aman stated.

18 of the confirmed cases are males while 5 are female, between the ages of 24 and 85 years.

The confirmed cases are spread out across the country as; Nairobi 11, Mombasa 5, Kajiado 3, Kiambu 2, and Wajir 2.

The cases per county are as follows; Nairobi; Embakasi 6, Kamukunji 2, Lang'ata 2, and Starehe 1; Mombasa; all the 5 cases were from Mvita; Kiambu; Thika; Wajir; Wajir East and Kajiado; Namanga 1, and Il Bisil 1, both were truck drivers.

Aman lauded members of the public for their compliance towards the safety measures issued by the national government through the Ministry of Health.

He, however, warned a section of errand Kenyans, he stated posed a threat to the safety of others by subverting the regulations given.

CAS Aman stated that the government was determined to conduct conclusive tests in the communities locked down due to Covid-19.

The CAS while addressing the case of truck drivers stated that they must possess Covid-19 free certificates, as to proceed with their journeys. This after complaints of truckers having to wait for long periods of time for their results, while they transport perishable goods.

"This pandemic has disrupted everything and does not respect convenience," Aman Pronounced.

He asserted that the tests were not as simple as perceived, noting that they may take longer, and drivers would only be allowed to move once their status is clear.
