Five individuals on Saturday, May 16, drowned after their boat capsized at Sango Bridge in River Nzoia.
Daily Nation was the first to report that four of those individuals who were in the ill-fated speed boat had been rescued.
Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli stated that local divers and the Alego-Usonga Sub-county security teams are still searching for one more body.
The cause that led to the boat capsizing is not yet known.
In just a period of one month, three incidences of water vessels capsizing have been reported in the country.
On May 2, 2020, a ferry, popularly known as Water Bus, that had been plying the Mageta Island—Usenge Beach route, capsized with 18 passengers on board.
Sources explained that the boat could have been hit by strong winds and high tides partly attributed to rising water levels in Lake Victoria.
In yet another incident on April 3, 2020, a boat with 18 passengers capsized at Kerio River in Turkana. Four of the passengers died while 14 were rescued.
The boat drowned due to overloading.
Meanwhile, heavy rains have intensified in the country and the Kenya Meteorological Department warns that the downpour will continue.
Many Kenyans have found themselves dealing with deadly floods and mudslides wreaked havoc in various parts of the country.
The weatherman also warned Kenyans in several counties including; Narok, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot to brace themselves for heavy rains.
