Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika continued with her defiance against President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, May 16, after questioning the decision to extend the curfew with demolitions happening at night.
Kihika cited the demolitions that took place in Ruai, Nairobi with over 100 families on Friday, May 15, forced to spend the night in the cold after their houses were flattened.
The Nakuru Senator took to Facebook to question the extension of movement restrictions and the dusk-to-dawn curfew for an additional 21 days, yet demolitions were being carried out during curfew hours.
"Let me get this right: We are extending curfews and cessations but also demolishing homes for over 100 families in Ruai under the cover of darkness?
"Leaving them to spend the night in the cold during this rainy season not to mention it is during the Corona Pandemic as we continue to sing; stay home, stay safe and sanitize?
"Okay! Makes a lot of sense! Heartbroken for all the affected God is watching!." wrote Kihika.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, May 16 announced that the curfew initially announced in the country on March 25, 2020, would be extended.
In a press briefing from State House, he stated that the curfew, dusk-to-dawn curfew had been extended for another 21 days to June 6, 2020.
Kihika was sticking to her script of questioning the Kenyatta-led government's decisions, a stand that made her lose a senior Senate position in the Jubilee Party following a Senate PG meeting on Monday, May 11 that was made official by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on May 12.
The Nakuru Senator was ousted as the Senate Majority Whip alongside her Elgeyo-Marakwet counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen who was the Majority leader.
The duo moved to court after they were relieved of their duties in the Senate arguing the process was illegal.
The two sued Jubilee, KANU, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju, Jubilee Chair Nelson Dzuya, Speaker Lusaka and Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu over the formation of a Jubilee-KANU coalition, and their sacking from the Senate.
