Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is facing an uphill task to retain his position as Ford-Kenya party leader, after the Registrar of Political Parties declined to take action against his rivals.

A faction of the party led by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi (Interim Party Chairman) and Ford-Kenya's Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu, is seemingly poised to oust him by all means possible.

The duo, while addressing the media outside the registrar's office, accused Wetangula of threatening the lives of NEC members who voted to kick him out.

"We are reporting the threats to the police so that our NEC members can be protected," Simiyu disclosed.

They also alleged that Wetangula was forcing the members to refute their signatures used to oust him. Wetangula was further accused of threatening Ford-Kenya members opposing him with de-whippings from National Assembly committees and overseeing their recall.

The faction presented their PP7 forms to Anne Nderitu, who filed them, awaiting Wetangula's response.

A report by the Standard added that the coup against Wetangula was hatched after party members were tipped off with reports that the Senator was plotting to suspend them.

"Wetangula had planned to call an NEC meeting to suspend Eseli. The Tongaren MP was tipped off and he acted faster than Wetangula, using the Senator's own playbook," a source revealed.

Anne Nderitu the registrar, stated that Wetangula's faction failed to raise a quorum stipulated in the party's constitution to warrant disciplinary action against his rivals adding that he also failed to submit a PP7 form on the change of party officials.

A report by Daily Nation on Saturday, June 6, detailed that Wetangula's only option to salvage his position is to call for another National Executive Committee and Parliamentary Group meeting to make changes before submitting them again.

The Senator's faction, however, are still accusing Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga and Central Organisation Trade Union (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli of orchestrating the ouster. They also insist that Wetangula will remain as party leader.
