A man was arraigned in court on Thursday, June, 11 for impersonating a security officer attached to State House.
According to court documents, Neylex Omondi Onyango was arrested after he walked into Huruma Police Station and identified himself as a National Intelligence Agent attached to State House.
He demanded the release of a robbery suspect who had been arrested in Mathare but police decided to do a background check before charging him in court.
Intelligence officers from Mathare area and larger Nairobi region denied any knowledge of the impersonator.
Omondi was charged and denied the offence. The judge then released him on a Ksh 300,000 bond.
The impersonator was ordered to appear back in court on August 20 for the hearing.
According to the constitution, impersonating a public officer is a violation of Section 105 (b) of the Penal Code.
This is not the first time someone has impersonated an officer from State House. On August 2018, Kepha Nyakundi was arrested after pretending to be former State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's former spokesman only learned of the matter when some parastatal heads called him to say they had received calls from a man purporting to be him.
The following year, in February 2019 impersonator went a step further to defraud businessman Naushad Merali Ksh10 million.
The city tycoon lost Ksh10 million to the men who impersonated President Uhuru in a purported land transaction.
