Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has promised to revamp security forces in Marsabit County as conflict and tension escalates in the region.
The CS, while addressing the media at Wilson Airport declared that he will initiate a full-fledged war against political leaders, bandits and area residents who will be found breaking the law.
Matiang'i argued that his Interior docket had lost several police officers in a bid to maintain peace in the region, with the latest casualties being four senior police officers who survived a plane crash en route to Marsabit on Saturday morning June 13.
"We have to change our doctrine and approach in that region. I am sending this message to our political leaders in the region. This is it, we cannot continue with politically instigated wars. We have started effective deployment in that region and will apply stiff measures to restore sanity. We are not going to be merciful and will not negotiate again.
"I am actually sad that Marsabit has made us lose several public officers. Our former Assistant Minister in the Interior, Mirugi Kariuki passed away in the region (a 2006 plane crash), we have lost several MPs and four senior police officers too while on a peacekeeping mission," he lamented.
The CS vowed to apply all legal measures to arrest and jail politicians who he argued are not above the law but usually find ways to escape arrest.
He also urged the region to emulate other areas that faced conflicts but embraced dialogues, reiterating that local leaders from Nyumba Kumi elders to Chiefs and police came together to find peaceful solutions.
"We sorted problems in regions like Bomet, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet using local systems. But for Marsabit and it's environment its always about arming residents and clan-related conflicts.
"For the last two days, we couldn't access the region due to poor weather conditions. We thank God for their safety. One of them is critically injured and our colleagues from the Air Force will airlift him for medical assessment," Matiang'i stated.
