Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday, June 15, raided offices of the County Government of Samburu and arrested three officials.
In a statement, the commission disclosed that the officers had participated in an irregular tender award that cost taxpayers Ksh8.4 million.
The three officials were identified as Agriculture Chief Officer Reuben Lemunyete, his Finance counterpart Daniel Nakuo and Head of Procurement Geoffrey Kitewan.
The tender in question was awarded to CMC Motor Group Limited for the supply of tractors and ploughs.
The trio was accused of willfully misrepresenting facts to influence the award of the tender to the aforementioned firm.
"The investigations established that the county officials willfully failed to comply with the procurement laws and procedures by awarding and authorising payment of Ksh8,418,964.
"[They] fraudulently misrepresented facts in order to influence the award of the tender by purporting to rely on procurement tendering documents of a previous tender contract which was already executed and performed by the said company," read the statement in part.
EACC further noted that the findings had been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.
After review, the three are set to be charged with various offenses in line with the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
They are set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, June 16.
The arrest comes barely a year after Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal Kasaine was arrested over graft allegations.
The county boss was taken into custody over a Ksh84 Million fuel scam.
At the time, investigations established that the governor was trading with the county government through Oryx Service Station for the supply of fuel from March 27, 2013, until 2019.
