Kenya has recorded 178 more Covid-19 cases from 3,918 samples tested in the last 24 hours, Health CAS Mwangangi said during a press briefing on Thursday, June 25. This brings the total tally to 5,384.
While making the announcement at Kenyatta National Hospital, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi noted that 34 patients had been discharged, bringing the tally of recoveries recorded to 1,857.
At the same time, CAS also stated that 2 people had succumbed to the virus with the tally rising to 132.
Out of the 178 cases, three were foreigners and 175 were Kenyans. 123 were male and 55 were female. The youngest was 1year-old with the oldest 78.
As on Thursday morning, June 25, the world had recorded 9,277,214 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 478,691 deaths.
Nairobi led with 100, Kajiado 21, Migori 17, Kiambu 16, Busia 8, Mombasa 7, Machakos 4, Nakuru 2, Uasin Gishu, Taita Taveta and Kericho each had 1 case.
"Kawangware, Kilimani and Westlands in Nairobi still remain as hotspots and we will continue watching how the virus progresses in those regions. Mombasa too has been put on high alert. This means that you are at a high risk of contracting the virus if you are in Mombasa and Nairobi," Mwangangi warned.
Alongside ICT CS Joe Mucheru, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi launched a professional health care centre at Kenyatta National Hospital, where healthcare practitioners will get assistance. The institution will also provide a call centre that will attend to all health matters.
"We appreciate the effort of nurses and health professionals. And we hope the call centres will aid both health medics and all Kenyans in general. It has mapped out all levels of medics in the country," Mwangangi stated.
"During this difficult time for many, the health care call centre project will serve across all the health care centres in Kenya. It is our intention to expand these call centres and have Kenyans seek help at any time," ICT CS Mucheru added.
