Deported firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna on Sunday, June 28, cancelled his scheduled appearance on K24's Punchline, hours before the planned interview with Anne Kiguta.

K24 had announced that Miguna, who was forcefully deported to Canada on March 29, 2018, would appear on the prime-time political talk show to discuss various pertinent issues.

Miguna had also noted that he was looking forward to the interview before K24 announced on social media that lawyer Ndegwa Njiru would also be interviewed on the same show.

Njiru represented the County Assembly of Kirinyaga in impeachment hearings against Governor Anne Waiguru which concluded at the Senate on Friday, June 26.

The announcement sparked queries from viewers who asked whether Miguna would still be on the show. K24 confirmed that both interviews would air on Punchline.

Smelling mischief, Miguna then cancelled the interview arguing that he had not been made aware of the change of plans in his conversations with Kiguta.

Miguna blamed renowned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi for hatching a scheme to create distractions to undermine his message.

"I'm not going to be party to Mutahi Ngunyi's schemes, I consider this a material change in what we had discussed and an attempt to cause unnecessary distractions and drama that would irreparably undermine what I stand for. I'm cancelling my appearance on Punchline.

"To Anne Kiguta, K24, Mutahi Ngunyi and Uhuru Kenyatta. I'm not from Kirinyaga. I'm not a Kirinyaga MCA. I don't represent Anne Waiguru or the Kirinyaga MCAs.

"I lead a revolutionary movement. We are struggling for Kenya's liberation and justice to all. We'll never waver," he wrote.

As the Mediamax-owned station is associated with the Kenyatta family, Miguna also alleged that President Kenyatta had a hand in the change of plans.

He has repeatedly blamed Uhuru for frustrating his attempts to return to Kenya despite securing several court orders compelling the government to facilitate his re-entry into the country.

"I've cancelled my appearance after your last-minute attempt to dilute the important national issues Anne Kiguta and I had agreed to discuss on Punchline. I know Uhuru Kenyatta owns K24 TV  and has pulled a fast one.

"I'm not willing to compromise my principles. Uhuru must go," he wrote.

Njiru, on the other hand, is expected to discuss the way forward for the County Assembly of Kirinyaga after Waiguru was cleared in the Senate.

The 11-member select committee led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala had stated that it found no evidence directly linking Waiguru to corrupt activities.

MCAs had earlier declared that they had the option of initiating a fresh impeachment process in the County Assembly.
