  • Kirinyaga MCAs have vowed to remove Governor Anne Waiguru just days after the Senate reversed their decision.

The MCAs, in a press conference held on Monday, June 29, 2020, vowed to restart the impeachment process.

They claimed that Governor Waiguru had survived the impeachment despite the grave accusations and therefore she would disregard the law.

“In the words of Fred Van Lente, If there are no consequences to your mistakes, there is no reason not to make them,” the press statement read.

“We now understand your nonchalant attitude towards the rule of law,” the document reads.

The MCAs claimed that 'though justice had been delayed', they would keep pushing.

“Neither your deep pockets, nor your influence, will desist our pursuit of justice for the people of Kirinyaga. So help us God,” the MCAs proclaimed.

This is despite Council of Governors Chair Wycliffe Oparanya asking MCAs to shelve plans to impeach county bosses

Speaking at a press conference alongside Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, Oparanya asked county legislators to focus on Covid-19 preparedness.

“What are saying is that all these money MCAs are spending in hiring lawyers, why can’t we use them to buy PPEs, test kits and expansion of bed capacity?” Oparanya argued.

Devolution CS Wamlwa observed that MCAs had made it fashionable to impeach governors, going on to mention the latest threat involving Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu

"It is their constitutional right to oversight the executive but I don’t think this is the time when impeachments are a fashionable thing to do," Wamalwa stated.

He urged the lawmakers to unite with governors to rid bring Covid-19 under control.
