Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has urged Kenyans to celebrate Felix Orinda's recovery milestone and allow him to recover.

In a short clip aired by NTV on Saturday, July 4, the outspoken lawmaker argued that the matter was still in court and that Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve, being released from the ICU was a feat worth celebrating.

"As we speak, everything is an allegation, the way you saw things is the way they are,

"We came from a difficult moment, from the ICU to now, we should celebrate that improvement of life," he stated.

He also addressed the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji during the interview challenging him to refrain from making public statements regarding the case and limit his utterances to court precincts.

That was after Haji, who noted that the case had slowed down, told the public that a petition to eject the lawmaker was another suitable path for those seeking justice.

"I respect the DPP as an officer of the state, let him restrict his duty within the precincts of the court. Whatever he is trying to prosecute in public does not add value. It is not watertight to justify the conviction," he stated.

Haji had earlier explained that DJ Evolve's case had been dragged due to Orinda's inability to record a statement after his voice was affected.

The victim had been paralysed and as proven by the NTV interview which was aired on Monday, June 29, the DJ had difficulty in expressing himself verbally.

As a result of the DPP's statement, a number of Kenyans, including city lawyer Robi Chacha, started petitions to kick Owino out of office.

The lawyer's announcement looking for registered voters in Embakasi East to fulfill the Constitutional requirements to oust the MP quickly went viral and elicited hundreds of responses, many of them from Embakasi residents who voiced their willingness to sign the petition.

Babu, however, brushed off the petition claiming that he was loved by his constituents and cited his development record as a major factor.

The lawmaker was arraigned in court on Monday, January 20, 2020, and was charged with attempted murder and behaving in a disorderly manner.

The MP denied the charge and was released on Ksh10 million bond with two sureties of the same amount and in the alternative, cash bail of Ksh5 million.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the case that was set for mention on Friday, March 20, 2020, was postponed after courts in the country scaled-down operations.

DPP Haji told the Judiciary on Tuesday, June 30, to prioritise the hearing of the case after the Covid-19 disruptions seemed to delay justice for DJ Evolve.
