The family of Baringo MP Gladwell Tungo is mourning the death of her husband who succumbed to Covid-19 on Saturday, July 4.

Citizen TV was the first to report that the husband, Isaac Cherogony, had been taken to an Eldoret Hospital after developing breathing problems.

Reports indicate that he was receiving treatment a the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret when he was pronounced dead.

The lawmaker's home was cordoned off as medical personnel commenced contact tracing.

Tungo was also tested for the deadly virus and her results are expected to be released this week.

This comes as the country fears of worsening Covid-19 numbers with Saturday recording the highest number of positive cases of 389 individuals.

So far, 7,577 have tested for the virus which has claimed 159.

In a meeting on Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta allayed fears that the virus was likely to worsen in Africa,  Kenya included, in the coming months. 

Speaking during a webinar on post-COVID-19 reconstruction organised by the African chapter of the International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP-Africa), the Head of State reiterated the need to maintain the measures being implemented by African countries to help in slowing down the spread of Covid-19.

The continent has recorded over 400,000 cases with more than 10,000 deaths.

Tungo clinched the Woman Rep seat through a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket in 2017 and has been vocal in a fight with Deputy President William Ruto's camp.

In March 2020, Tungo was among the lawmakers who met at Serena Hotel in Nairobi and later issued Ruto with an ultimatum demand his respect for President Uhuru Kenyatta or to steps down.
