Omar Lali, the boyfriend to the late Keroche Breweries Heiress Tecra Muigai was on Monday, July 13, charged with murder in a Lamu Court.

The boyfriend was charged following Muigai's death on Saturday, May 2, after claims that she was pushed to her death.

The Keroche Heiress was found dead at a private house in Shella, Lamu Island where had been staying with Omar Lali.

Lamu law courts principal magistrate Allan Temba charged Lali after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) reviewed toxicological evidence, detailed post mortem reports and phone records.

Tecra's family lawyers led by James Orengo were delighted after the decision and asked that Lali be arraigned before the judge for plea.

Lali was arrested after detectives reportedly picked inconsistencies with his account of how the Keroche Breweries director of strategy and innovation met her death.

According to Lali, Muigai initially tumbled down the stairs and later changed his account to claim that she tripped in the bathroom.

Reports indicate that upon being called, Muigai's mother sent a private helicopter to pick her from the Manda airport but unfortunately, she had bled considerably hence succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment in Nairobi.

Despite an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to have Lali detained he was released in May.

Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Sitati declined to continue holding Mr Lali after the expiry of the 21-day pre-trial detention that ended on Tuesday, May 26.

Tecra Muigai was the daughter of Keroche Breweries Chairman Joseph Karanja and CEO Tabitha Karanja and was the Strategy and Innovations Director at the company.
