Former Starehe MP aspirant Steve Mbogo's sister, Jennifer Mukonyo Mbogo, has been charged with fraud of Ksh18.5 million alongside her husband, Nathan Loyd Ndung’u.
According to a video that surfaced on Saturday, of the charge sheet being read to the duo, they were accused of conspiring to defraud, obtaining money by false pretences from Ezetel Kenya Limited.
The two were accused of pretending to be directors of Avo-veg Health Kenya Limited in order to secure an Avocado exportation deal.
They reportedly obtained the money between March 1 and April 1, 2020.
The charge sheet also indicated that the duo issued 13 bouncing cheques amounting Sh990,000 on March 28.
"Nathan Loyd Ndung'u and Jennifer Mukonyo Mbogo, on diverse dates between March 1, 2020 and April 1, 2020, in Nairobi County within the Republic of Kenya, jointly being the directors of Avo-veg Health Kenya Limited, with intent to defraud obtained from Ezetel Kenya Limited eiighteen million, five hundred thousand shillings (Ksh18,500,000) by falsely pretending that you were in a position to partner with them in financing of Avocado export business, a fact you knew was false," read the charge sheet in part.
As a result, the duo are facing 13 counts of issuing bad cheques.
The two, however pleaded not guilty claiming that the case resulted from civil disagreement and should be converted into a criminal one.
They also defended themselves in court statements that they had paid Sh1.6 million to Ezetel as well as issued a Ksh5 million cheque.
They further pleaded to be released on bail arguing that they were not a flight risk and that they had legitimately registered their company.
The complainant, however, disputed that the two had not made any payments and the judge detained them.
The bail hearing for the two is slated for Monday, July 20, 2020.
