Tongeren MP Eseli Simiyu was on Monday, July 20, shouted down by irate youth during a consultative forum at Nzoia Sugar Guest House grounds in Bungoma County.

Simiyu was heckled after he allegedly tried to delve into  politics rather than address issues that were ailing workers in the sugar industry.

The MP stated that he was already done talking about the workers' payments but the youth could hear none of that, forcing him to revert to the initial topic.

Eseli then made a short remark before he left the podium.

On his part, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa urged the government to fasttrack payments of sugar workers and warned against setting up development projects at Nzoia Sugar Guest House grounds.

"We have had previous CS Adan Mohammed who came here and assured us that the debts had been written off. Was it a hoax? We should get politics out of sugar matters," he stated.

Some of the other leaders who were present during the event included; Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma), Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia), Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, CSs Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution), John Munyes (Petroleum and Mining), James Macharia (Transport), among others.

Meanwhile in Kirinyaga County, members of the county assembly committee on agriculture and irrigation were forced to cut short their tour after a group of youth stormed their meeting and caused chaos.

The MCAs had to scamper for safety to evade the wrath unleashed on them by the youth.

They are said to have gone to the area for a fact-finding mission after some of the farmers had complained to the committee over a water distribution row.

The youth accused the MCAs of engineering chaos in a rice-producing scheme after apaprently being compromised by unnamed individuals.
