Renowned online comedian Brendah 'Jons' Gathoni, also known as Mama Njeri or Mama Plezident Kingston disclosed plans to start a foundation to help rape victims in Kenya.

This was after hundreds of Kenyans reached out to her seeking help. The comedian, had earlier on revealed that she was sexually assaulted twice by people close to her when she was young.

"Plans are underway to have the foundation registered as I set out to reach out to more Kenyans and other stakeholders to unite and push for justice for the victims or also support in one way or another. My Instagram private inbox is full. I am so overwhelmed by emotions when I read the torment many people go through," Gathoni emotionally stated.

Through her social media pages, the 23-year-old artist vowed to push for help through all means necessary while seeking motivation from her childhood ordeal.

Gathoni stated that she was willing to fight for both men and women who have faced the plight which has worsened during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

"I need all of you to stand behind me and let's scream out for help...for the ones in the slums, for the ones in remote areas, for all who have no voice to speak. I am here to lose my voice screaming out for you. I am the hand you hold when no one is there," she posted on Thursday, July 23.

She went on to add that victims needed comfort and assurance which she was fighting for and one she was never accorded.

In an interview with media personality Betty Kyalo, then a K24 TV presenter, in October 2019, Gathoni stated that the ordeal made her stronger and motivated her to use it to help other victims overcome trauma.

According to a Kenya National Bureau of Statistics study from 2014, 14% of Kenyan women have experienced sexual violence.
