Kisii County was the scene of twin road accidents on Wednesday, July 29, the number of casualties are yet to be confirmed.
The first accident involved a police Toyota Land Cruiser and a matatu which collided along the Kisii-Kilgoris Highway.
Photos from the scene showed the extensive damage on the vehicles with eyewitnesses indicating that they could have been speeding.
Both vehicles’ windshields were shattered with the front-ends of both vehicles mangled, suggesting serious injuries were sustained by the occupants.
Mokua Robinson, a GSU officer from Kisii County mourned the loss of a friend, only identified as Michael, in the accident.
The police vehicle was attached to Nyagusu Police Station while the matatu was from Nyatrop Sacco.
Authorities are yet to confirm casualties and whether the vehicles had other occupants apart from the drivers.
In the second accident, a private car rolled into a ditch that was approximately 150 meters from the Kisii-Nyamira road.
The car rolled off after it was unable to navigate the sharp bend, veering of the road.
As the car rolled severally, it left a track of debris and contents that were in the vehicle.
Security officials are yet to confirm the number of occupants of the car and their status.
However, residents were seen surrounding the vehicle that had come to a stop with its wheels up in the air.
