On Tuesday, August 4, Kenya recorded 605 new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) out of 4,547 samples tested in the preceding 24 hours.
Health CAS Rashid Aman addressed the media outside Afya House, Nairobi, announcing that the total tally of Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 23,202 from 322,923 samples tested since March 2020.
On the same breath, he stated that 587 had recovered, taking the total number to 9,327.
582 of the new cases are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners living in the country.
The country recorded 401 new male infections and 204 new female infections.
Six succumbed to the virus, increasing the total number of fatalities to 388. The new cases were distributed as follows: Nairobi-373, Kiambu-35, Migori-25, Busia-20, Narok-20, Kajiado-16, Laikipia-16, Nakuru-15, Kakamega-12, Uasin Gishu-11, Machakos-10, Mombasa-9, Samburu-8 and Turkana-7.
Taita Taveta recorded 3 cases, Nyeri, Makueni, Kisumu, Kilifi and Elgeyo Marakwet registered 2 each while Siaya, Meru, Kitui,Isiolo and Bungoma had one case each.
The recoveries were the highest the country has witnessed, 500 of them being under home-based care while 87 were released from various hospitals.
The number symbolised the success of the home-based care plan which has allowed thousands to undergo treatment from the comfort of their homes.
The result is that the plan has allowed more resources to be utilised by patients who need critical care and doctors can focus on treating those with severe cases without being overburdened.
"The main focus of home-based care is containment of the spread of Covid. It will help us manage the disease and free up resources. With our growing numbers we have to look for a way of managing patients without straining the health care workers," the CAS noted.
The Ministry of Health emphasised that Kenyans should carefully dispose of surgical mask after use to avoid spreading the virus.
