A number of staff members at the Ministry of Health have openly defied Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe's orders.
A report by Daily Nation indicated that the eight staffers were among 60 officials who had been transferred from the ministry in his efforts to curb rampant corruption.
The publication indicated that 21 of the staffers were redeployed to undertake different roles within the ministry while the rest were transferred to other ministries.
Reports have, however, emerged that eight of the staffers declined to move while three of the 21 officials took legal action against the CS's decision to redeploy them.
"Most of them have moved to their stations, although there are eight who have refused to move.
"With the position that the CS is taking, they will have to move," the publication quoted a source privy to the matter.
The CS made the move through a circular that was sent to senior officials at the ministry last week.
Some of the officials that have been transferred include Head of planning in the ministry Joseph Muraga who was replaced with Nthege Samuel while Head of Disease Surveillance Daniel Langat was transferred to Nakuru County.
Others are Head of National Malaria Programme Grace Ikahu who was moved to the International Health Relations and replaced with George Githuka Njoroge.
The ministry has been rocked with claims that Covid-19 funds were misappropriated with officials at both the national and county levels inflating prices of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to squander money donated to save Kenyans from the pandemic.
On Tuesday, August 11, UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott and US Ambassador Kyle McCarter demanded accountability from CS Kagwe over the embezzlement of Coronavirus (Covid-19) funds.
The two diplomats joined calls by former Presidential aspirant Martha Karua and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo to have CS Kagwe and President Uhuru Kenyatta explain how Covid-19 funds were being spent.
In May, the CS commenced his clean-up exercise as he transferred 31 employees at the ministry.
The employees transferred at the time included senior public servants who were entrusted with sourcing for health service providers and approving payments amounting to billions of shillings every year.
The transfers also happened in other Ministries such as Interior, Education, Sports and Petroleum.
