Since his debut in politics as Makadara MP, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has earned a reputation for unmatched flamboyance.
The flamboyance is apparent in almost everything the Governor does, he is known to move around with large entourages and boasts an impressive collection of luxury cars.
Sonko's loud sense of style, however, has become the defining part of his brand. It is no wonder that editorial cartoons satirize him as a bling-donning urbane rabble-rouser.
He has hit the headlines on several occasions over the years for his purchases of chains, shoes, clothes and watches. In a video shared on Monday, August 24, Sonko offered a glimpse into what is a closet worth millions.
Located in what is also a bedroom, Sonko's organized collection of shoes and clothes takes up most of the space. It is here that Sonko begins his day, picking out designer outfits and accessories before embarking on other activities.
Some of the Governor's favorite designer brands include Versace, Moschino, Adidas and Nike.
In 2019, the Governor went viral after sharing a video of himself purchasing a gold chain and Versace pendant worth Ksh4.3 million in Dubai.
"I want bigger chains with diamonds, I'm sending the pictures to my wife to choose, I'm a fan of gold and Versace," Sonko was heard telling the jeweller in the video.
He pulled out a wad of dollar notes and paid in cash before leaving the store, sparking a social media buzz.
Following his arrest over alleged corruption and abuse of office in 2019, Sonko again hit the headlines when he appeared in court in a Versace t-shirt.
It was a limited edition ‘Versace Tribute’ collection “Wild Baroque – SS 1992”, which retails at between $750 (Ksh75,000) and $995 (Ksh99,500).
On the day he was arrested in Voi on December 2019, Sonko's fashion also became a talking point after his Versace t-shirt was torn during a squabble with the arresting officers.

The Governor caught the attention of sneaker heads in 2017 as well when he was pictured wearing a pair of Pharell’s Adidas NMD human race sports shoes. A pair of the sneakers retails at around $1750 (Ksh175,000).
