The Ministry of Interior has announced auctions in different parts of the county, where tyres, batteries and more than 100 motor vehicles will be disposed of.
A statement by the Ministry indicated that the auction would be held at DCI Mazingira House- Nairobi and other DCI Regional Offices or Stations across the country on various dates.
Interested bidders have been advised to pay a refundable deposit of Ksh 1,000 in order to get a bidding number.
"The deposit shall be paid in form of cash at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters (Mazingira House) Cash Office," reads a part the statement.
Further, the Ministry indicated that all the vehicles had to be collected within 30 days once bids were concluded, failure to which the purchaser would incur a storage charge of Ksh 1,000 a day.
Those declared as the highest bidders will be required to pay 25% of the purchase in cash for the lots upfront. The remaining (75%) will be required to be paid in cash within seven days from the auction date.
"Failure to which the initial deposit will be forfeited and the item offered to the second-highest bidder," read an excerpt of the statement.
The Ministry assured that the bids had been priced reasonably, adding that taxes and other charges involved during transfer of ownership would be borne by the purchaser.
"A bid number shall be given to the prospective bidder by the Auctioneer on payment of Kshs. 1,000 non-refundable fee," read a part of the statement.
M/S Jostel Auctioneers was the firm tasked with overseeing the operation.
A similar operation was held in 2019 November where the Ministry disposed a number of vehicles at a paltry Ksh20,000.
