Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday, August 29, called out billionaires who had acquired their wealth by scamming Kenyans and fleecing public coffers.
During an address in Mombasa, the DP spoke out on the recent scandal at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) stating that it had cost the country money for crucial services.
"Brokers are the most corrupt people. You even go and steal money meant to help sick people as Kenyans suffer without food.
"At KEMSA the graft there is said to have made billionaires, hamna aibu jameni (Have you no shame?)" he posed.
He added that the perpetrators had, directly and indirectly, caused the suffering of millions of Kenyans during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ruto further warned unseen characters who were interfering with his duties as the deputy president to desist from their schemes.
"My job as Deputy President is to serve over 40 million Kenyans, so I ask all thugs and conmen to leave me alone," he stated.
The DP also dared a section of Jubilee leaders who were supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga to exit the party,
"It does not make sense for party officials to declare that a person from another party will be president. If that is the case, they should do it from Orange House where they can campaign with people of the same agenda," he declared.
The DP had earlier distanced himself from the theft of Covid-19 funds at KEMSA noting that he was never involved in the graft scheme while sticking to the sidelining narrative.
"At least for once it won't be possible to be blamed for what someone said, 'started in Wuhan as a virus, landed in Italy as a pandemic and now in Kenya as a multi-billion shilling corruption enterprise'".
"Wacha niendelee kama spectator isorait (let me continue as a spectator, its alright)," stated the Deputy President.
