Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday, August 29, dared a section of Jubilee leaders to exit the party in favour of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking during a meeting with faith-based leaders in Mvita and Nyali constituencies, Mombasa County, the DP stated that senior officials who were fronting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the candidate for the 2022 polls should officially jump ship.

"It does not make sense for party officials to declare that a person from another party will be president. If that is the case, they should do it from Orange House where they can campaign with people of the same agenda," he declared.

Ruto argued that the act of campaigning for individuals in the opposing party was disenfranchising members of the party who were eyeing the presidential seat.

"If out of all the members of the Jubilee party, roughly eight million, you have seen none can be the president, then go to Orange party and work from there," he added.

The DP had earlier expressed his frustrations with divisions within the Jubilee Party accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta allies of hijacking the faction.

In an interview, the DP singled out Jubilee Vice-Chairperson David Murathe as one of the forces fighting him in the party.

"Jubilee is not functioning as a party. We folded about 12 political parties to form Jubilee. Unfortunately, the party has been hijacked by busybodies, conmen and brokers like David Murathe who have no clue on our philosophy. Their word has become the party position," he added.

Ruto added that the same thing that is currently happening to the Jubilee Party is what befell the KANU party which locked out a majority of its members from elective positions.

In a rejoinder, Murathe who was infuriated by the DP's sentiments, first dared Ruto to quit, arguing that he had proven to be impatient.

The President's ally stated that Ruto's desire to run for 2022 elections had blinded him, adding that had the DP waited a little longer, Kenyatta would have run his campaign.

"This is just the beginning and he has only just tasted a small portion of what awaits him. We will prove to him that he's not as smart as he thinks," Murathe stated in an interview with a local daily.
