Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, on Tuesday, September 1, fired some 48 board members citing lack of adequate education.

The 48 had been appointed to various boards that managed projects financed by World Bank in Kiambu County.

According to a report by Daily Nation, the team had been hired by the embattled former Governor of the county Ferdinand Waititu.

Nyoro further pointed out that the appointment of the four disregarded laid down procedures provided by the law regarding the hiring of public workers.

The publication further indicated that the alarm had been raised by the World Bank which enjoys a partnership with the county.

“We noticed that most of them had no post-primary education and dropped out of school in Standard Seven yet they were part of committee that makes decision on multi-billion projects funded by the World Bank.

“There were concerns from the World Bank that most of the municipal board members could not understand and interpret policy issues to the people they claim to represent," the publication quoted a source.

“Most of them had not met the set qualifications,” confirmed Nyoro.

The county boss also lamented poor service delivery at the county to poor qualifications of some of the inherited staff although our calls to the county's officials for comment went unanswered.

In a past grilling, Nyoro blamed Waititu for various acts of impropriety amounting to Ksh3.8 billion he inherited when he assumed office.

The acts of impropriety the governor mentioned included Ksh1 billion which was lost through thin air by the last two administrations.

Nyoro, during the Senate grilling on August 10, 2020, also invited the sleuths to probe claims that an additional Ksh530 million which he said was lost through irregular employment of county workers before the documents were subsiquently destroyed.

Other corrupt dealings included stalled projects and theft of hospital money.
