The Ministry of Education has denied reports alleging that there will be a phased re-opening of schools for candidates who were supposed to sit their 2020 national exams.

On their social media pages, the Ministry denounced a proposal circulating online, which indicated that candidates would re-open school on October 25, 2020, and sit their exams beginning March 30, 2021.

Additionally, the proposal had alleged that the rest of the students would re-open in January 2021 with grades 4,5 and 6 attending classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, grade 7 attending on Monday to Friday while grade 1-3 and pre-school children going to school on Tuesday and Thursday.

The Ministry has since asked parents and candidates to ignore the said report, noting that it is fake.

"Ministry not contemplating any such idea," a statement on their Twitter page indicated.

In the wake of Covid-19, the Ministry has been marred with confusion, with the school re-opening dates changing from time to time.

During previous assessments, Education CS George Magoha revealed details of schools reopening, giving different dates with each address.

On Wednesday, September 9, however, Magoha maintained that the government's position on the dates remained, January 2021.

"That position has not changed. However, we may relook at the reopening dates depending on how the virus behaves," he stated while assessing the level of preparedness at  Pwani University.

Further, he blamed the media for misrepresenting his words on the reopening of schools stating that the changing dates made him appear indecisive.

“The media has made me look like someone who did not go to school. They have made me look like a person who flip-flops; someone who says this today, and says that tomorrow," Magoha told journalists.
