Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has touched the heart of a University student who had turned to brick making to turn her dream of becoming a nurse into a reality.

The student, Celestine Jepkazi and her mother, Hellen Jepkosgei, broke down in the governor's office on Friday, September 11, when he declared that would cater for her University education.

In a statement on his social media pages, Sang stated that Jepkazi's story had moved him, prompting him to offer assisstance.

"I was touched by the story of Celestine Jepkazi of Kabisaga ward, Mosop Sub County whose determination to join University saw her engage in brick making to raise University fees.

"I had the opportunity to meet Celestine, her mother Hellen Jepkosgei together with Mrs. Ann Birgen a teacher at Cheptil Secondary School in my office," Sang stated.

She will now pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at the Meru University.

Celestine is expected to start her learning in January 2021, when the Education Ministry announced schools would re-open.

Jepkazi's relief came days after Mary Pendo Mweni, a 17-year-old girl, pleaded with well-wishers to help pay for her first term school fees at the Kisii University.

Pendo had been admitted to the University to pursue a bachelor's degree in law, after she scored a B- in 2019's national examination.

“The money that my parents had set aside for me to join university was all spent on my father’s medication, leaving me with no hope of ever joining university,” Pendo had told reporters.

“I really do not want to miss this opportunity, and I am appealing to anybody who can hold my hand and support me so that my dream of helping the society as a lawyer may come true,” Pendo stated.
