Kenya has recorded 96 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, from 3,270 tests conducted, bringing the total number of cases to 36,301.
In a press briefing, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi on Tuesday, September 15, announced that all new cases were Kenyans, except 4 foreigners.
121 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, 97 from the home-based care system while 24 are from various hospitals.Total number of recoveries stand at 23,364.
In terms of gender, 70 were male and 26 were female.
The youngest case was a 5-year-old child while the oldest was 81 years.
Unfortunately, 10 patients succumbed, bringing the total deaths to 634.
The CAS noted that the country had made significant gains in the fight against Covid-19 but warned that they could be reversed if Kenyans do not adhere to the governments directives.
This comes on the backdrop of reports of politicians conducting rallies in complete disregard of the set guidelines.
She added that no second wave had been recorded in the country.
"We have taken Covid-19 samples to study its genetic makeup. Our virus is not different from the virus in other countries. Covid-19 has many effects including inducing diabetes. It's a new virus we are learning," Mwangangi noted.
Speaking about the looming strike by nurses in Nairobi, the CAS explained that the medics had presented their grievances to NMS and the Ministry of Health to avert a strike.
