President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, September 21, cracked up a crowd in Changamwe, Mombasa as he warned leaders against tribal politics.

Uhuru was addressing residents in Changamwe after he inspected the progress of the Dongo Kundu bypass that is under construction.

The President urged leaders to focus on delivering to the people in order to improve their living standards instead of engaging in divisive politics.

The crowd gathered broke into laughter as the President was addressing them when he used a common street slang used to refer to the Kalenjin community.

"We want children to learn, access better health care. We want to create jobs with good salaries and ensure when you get home your children feed well.

"But when we are divided into tribal lines that this is a Luo, this is a Giriama, a Digo, this is a Kale, you think that is what will satisfy you?" noted Uhuru.

The President has been in an inspection tour in Mombasa as he was accompanied by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Saturday, making a stop at the Likoni floating bridge currently under construction.

Uhuru also made a surprise tour of Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa County on Sunday evening during which he interacted with vendors.

During his visit to the park, he assured small-scale traders in Mombasa that the government was keen to ensure normalcy in business was restored following the slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The President also met Dennis Mudy, a reporter attached to MK TV who went viral after a video of him crying while interviewing him hit the interwebs.

Uhuru has recently been touring various parts of the country to inspect development projects with the latest being a last month's tour of Kisumu to inspect the newly refurbished port.
