A businessman has been taken to police custody after he was nabbed by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In a statement on Thursday, September 24, the DCI disclosed that the man identified as Innocent Oundo Sillingi was arrested as he prepared to leave for Dubai.

"Detectives based at JKIA have arrested Innocent Oundo Sillingi as he was preparing to depart to Dubai following a stop order placed by DCI Headquarters on February 24, 2020," reads the statement in part.

The businessman was accused of obtaining Ksh10 million under false pretenses during his tenure as the director of Project Capital Solutions.

He had reportedly promised to supply the project and working capital.

"Acting as a director of Project Capital Solutions, Mr Sillingi obtained over Ksh10 million by falsely pretending he would arrange for letters of credit, discounting of documents facility for suppliers and credit funding program.

"Further, the suspect claimed he would also finance the supply of both the project and working capital under certain terms and conditions," the statement further reads.

DCI revealed that investigations into the matter were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged accordingly.

This came just a day after detectives arrested six businessmen at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The agency disclosed that the six attempted to sneak out miraa disguised as Fine Beans and Ravaya.

They had received a tip-off from airport security and recovered 150 cartons of miraa.

The suspects had hid the contraband in the cartons by placing Khat at the bottom with a top dressing of French beans and eggplants to by-pass airport security.
