Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok on Saturday, September 26, took on an MP from his county who challenged his authority.

The legislator, Loima MP Jeremiah Lomorukai had accused the county boss of threatening county employees with firings.

"These employees should not allow themselves to be threatened. Some of them are even more educated that the governor, so it not right," he stated.

Lomoukai claimed that the tactics used by Nanok were to facilitate theft from the county coffers by instilling fear in the employees.

"Before you sack them, we will sack you!" he threatened.

In a rejoinder, the governor stated that he would not keep officials who were engaging in politics in his administration noting that he was keen on achieving his promises to the people with the years remaining in his term.

He further called out the leaders who had resulted to abusing him for political mileage.

"Those leaders who are now abusing me even after I contributed immensely to them getting elected, their end is near," the governor warned.

Siding with him, Turkana East MP Mohamed Lokiru stated that the governor was elected by the people to serve Turkana.

He rubbished Lomorukai's claims that he would initiate the firing of the Nanok.

"You will fire the governor using which mandate?" he posed.

Earlier in September Governor Nanok was grilled by the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee for failing to utilise Ksh3.7 billion in the 2017/18 financial year.

On his part, Nanok told the Senator Sam Ongeri-led committee that the underutilisation of funds was occasioned by delay in disbursement of funds from the National Treasury.

“During the reporting period, exchequer releases were disbursed in Quarter 2 and into the next financial year,” he explained.
