The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reviewed the timeline for the recruitment of teachers and also issued a reporting date for the new teachers.

The commission detailed that new teachers will report to schools on Monday, January 4, 2021.

The new date for the teachers was set despite the Ministry not issuing a general date for reopening of schools. This was after President Uhuru Kenyatta declined to reopen schools

The recruitment process commenced on Tuesday, September 1, after TSC issued an advert with teachers directed to apply online

TSC stated that the county selection process and filling of application for employment forms by successful candidates will be conducted between Thursday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 14.

Vetting and handling of complaints at the county level will be conducted for five days, between Thursday, October 15, and Thursday, October 22.

TSC believes that the recruitment of 11,000 teachers to public schools will enable the setting up of more classes to tackle congestion.

Teachers are expected to discuss the implementation of education strategies on the resumption of teaching and learning.

They were tasked with developing timetables, preparation of schemes of work, working on the Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD), and updating the Teachers Management Information System (TMIS).

They will also come up with psycho-social support systems to strengthen the guidance and counselling committee, while also ensuring students adhere to health protocols stipulated to curb the spread of Covid-19.
